New Zealand-based, The Crafty Weka Bar wanted to bring its products to the U.S. They were looking for an eCommerce agency partner that could help them understand the market and launch a new website.
We combined their origin story, product specialties, and our marketing expertise to build a website that did two things – generated enthusiasm about the product and made it extremely easy to buy online.
WEKA LAYOUT GOALS AND ACHIEVEMENTS
The Crafty Weka Bar had a functioning website with a core set of menu and product pages.
Our goal was to upgrade the look, optimize the layout, and write compelling copy for these pages. We selected a Shopify theme that elevated the website by making it look more credible and welcoming. We used Weka Bar’s established brand book to determine the design direction for their new website.
We wrote fresher, search engine optimized content for all of the website’s pages by balancing the brand’s existing tone and speaking more directly with their target audience. We also created new product pages that highlighted the unique selling points of of their products and made it easily shoppable.
CREATED FOR MOBILE AND DESKTOP
It’s no secret that for a website to to be successful, it has to be mobile-friendly. In fact, Google is clear that it predominantly uses the mobile version of a site’s content, which we know as mobile-first indexing.
While this may be a good-to-have for other types of businesses, it’s mandatory for eCommerce businesses. We know most people are often browsing and purchasing while they are on mobile devices, so it was extremely important for us to build a website that worked seamlessly across devices.
WEBSITE DESIGN OVERVIEW
The Crafty Weka Bar takes pride in their all-natural ingredients and energizing mealbars. In addition, the brand is also light-hearted and fun. We drew on these two core ideas to design a website that reflected these brand traits.
We selected a modern, bold san serif font to mirror The Crafty Weka Bar’s modern take on snack and meal bars. We used color blocking to create strong imagery and pulled secondary color for the website from the bars themselves.
We also wanted to celebrate the brand’s New Zealand roots. We did this by placing the country’s Weka bird, that is also the brand’s mascot, in strategic places and using outdoor imagery like the mountains. By doing this, we evoked a sense of being outdoors in a fun and engaging way.
Lastly, we focused on making the website extremely easy to navigate and browse through.
DESKTOP AND MOBILE DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS
User-Friendly
For mobile and desktop both, it was a priority for us to ensure the website delivered excellent user experience in the form of features and ease of navigation.
Shoppable
Next, we focused on making the website easy to browse through and shop on. We designed it so product information was easy to see and understand and buying the product was simple.
Customized for Mobile
In addition to the above considerations, we factored in the smaller screen sizes and users’ scrolling behavior on mobile devices. We reduced the elements to be legible yet proportional on mobile.
CUSTOM ICONS AND FEATURES
Transparent Ingredients Need Transparent Messaging
The Crafty Weka Bar is clear about the ingredients they use. In the same manner, we wanted to clearly identify and position these ingredients on the pages so users could easily know what was in each product.
We designed icons that matched the rest of the website design by using strong colors and solid iconography.
We did not use outlined icons, instead filled them with color to convey strength and nourishment. This also helped make the icons more noticeable.
